About Cantamar

Cantamar is a charming community in the Carmel Valley area of San Diego, California. Residents enjoy many amenities and are close to freeways, services, restaurants, stores, and recreation.

Cantamar was built by Baldwin in 1989 and was one of the region’s first residential developments to feature red tiled roofs of the Spanish architectural design. Today it has 223 dethatched homes with a variety of open floor plans. Homes have three to five bedrooms and living space ranges from 2,350 to 2,904 square feet. Many lots are on cul de sacs. There are also many parks and walking trails around this community. There is a Home Owners Association fee which covers the common area.

The San Dieguito Union High School District and the Del Mar Union School District provide public education for this area. Students attend many highly ranked facilities like Sycamore Ridge School, Carmel Valley Middle School, and Torrey Pines High School. There are hundreds of private institutions like the Calvary Christian Academy, Escondido Adventists Academy, the Montessori American School, and Halstrom Academy. Public universities include the University of California (UCSD) and San Diego State University (SDSU) as well as the San Diego Community College District.

Parks nearby include Carmel Creek Park, Carmel Knolls Park, and Carmel del Mar Park. Across the Ted Williams Parkway is the Palacio del Mar Golf Course and the Grand Golf Course which features a Tom Fazio designed course, lodging, and a gourmet restaurant in a Mediterranean-style resort.

San Diego is California’s second largest city and the nation’s eighth. Its economy relies on tourism, manufacturing, international trade, and military defense related activities.
